Mission Statement

“At Lavastar, we’re committed to a net-zero future. Our mission is to be a force for change in the large format printing sector, whilst minimizing our environmental impacts.

We don’t settle for surface-level comparisons—like PVC vs. PVC-free because we know that true sustainability goes beyond labels. Instead, we dive deep into each product’s story and lifecycle. Where was it produced? Is it made from recycled materials? Can it be fully recycled to create a closed-loop production line? Can a product be repurposed post use?

These are the questions that drive our circular economy approach, ensuring that every choice we make contributes to a greener, more responsible industry.”

The Air We Breathe

We’ve been using a range of non-PVC and sustainable substrates in our print production process since 2015, back before it was widely available or even desirable. We’re also striving to become a circular business by reducing the impact of our graphics throughout their lifecycle.

In 2023 we took another step towards this goal, partnering with air quality pioneers, Clean Air by Resysten. They’ve developed technology to remove harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the atmosphere around us reducing them to harmless matter. We’re using Clean Air in our factory, coating the graphics and signs we make alongside a variety of other surfaces to increase the impact further; including vehicles, building, glazing, interior spaces and hopefully one day, our new factory.

Solving Recycling Challenges

Lavastar is thrilled to partner with Reconomy, a leading provider of “on your doorstep” material recycling services.

With Reconomy, our waste management is handled by pre-approved supply chain partners, ensuring full compliance and environmentally friendly disposal.

Leveraging their 30 years of experience operating in the print sector, Reconomy brings extensive knowledge of the substrates we use and reliability to our waste management processes, allowing us to focus on our core business while they expertly manage our recycling needs.

Carbon Quota

We’re working to reduce our environmental impact and improve the health of our employees and the communities where we have an impact.

To do this, we’re focusing on:

Working in partnership with Carbon Quota to measure the impact of our operation whilst defining science-based CO2 and biodiversity targets
This year, we will be calculating our scope 1 and 2 emissions only for 2024, creating an operational baseline for our energy consumption and targets to achieve emissions reductions as we move through 2025
As a small team, mapping our scope 3 emissions will be a longer task, but through close collaboration with our suppliers we will start to understand the carbon emissions that come from our supply chain – from materials, transport, manufacturing and distribution.

Heavens Yard

A Lavastar Company

Heavens Yard was created to tackle the tonnes of PVC waste from banners and building wraps that end up in landfills each year. Unfortunately, recycling PVC is more complex than other plastics due to additives like stabilizers and plasticizers, making the recycling process particularly challenging.

We’ve spent years searching for circular solutions to the PVC banner waste problem and in 2023 we took a big step forward, creatingHeavens Yard, a unique closed-loop PVC re-imagining solution. We can repurpose every part of an old PVC banner – even the hemming and eyelets!

Our plan is to feed all of our waste PVC via our project collect and take-back scheme, providing the Heavens Yard venture with the raw material to make unique products launching will include windbreakers, deckchairs, bags and sports field protection covers.

MetaStream^®

Lavastar, as a Metamark partner, proudly supports the MetaStream^® initiative—an independently audited recycling program that enables the recovery of print production waste and end-user products made with qualified Metamark materials. This initiative helps transform waste into reusable articles that can be recycled multiple times. By participating in MetaStream^®, Lavastar helps keep valuable resources out of landfills and incineration, contributing to a more environmentally responsible future for the signage, graphics, and allied industries.

Amari Greencast

Lavastar has partnered with Amari Sustainable to access their Green Cast^® product, an eco-friendly, 100% recycled and recyclable cast acrylic sheet. Green Cast^® offers the same performance and durability as virgin acrylic, while significantly reducing environmental impact. Its carbon-neutral manufacturing process, using renewable energy, cuts CO2 emissions by up to 76%. Certified with an EPD and the ISO 9001 standard , this product further supports our sustainable operations in signage and graphics.
